I bought mine for my vehicles. It works good where the carpet is flat but I do not have a lot of "flat carpet" in any of my vehicles. I end up using two other attachments more in my vehicles (about a 4" wide tool I have owned for years and a crevice tool I bought here). The brush runs faster than I expected and helps knock the dirt free from the carpet. It swivels which sometimes helps. I keep it where I vacuum the vehicles and plan to continue using it.

Have not used it on stairs. Has worked well on upholstery.
