Have had problems with the outlets and hoses in the past. Original hose was Broan, now replaced by Nutone. got the reducer as a precaution, didn't need it.

Used it to adapt 2 central vacuum hoses of standard size to my legacy Sears Kenmore Central Vacuum wall outlets. One end is wider than the other. Put the wider end in the hose. It may be a snug fit but I was able to get it into both hoses with pushing and turning. The narrower end fits nicely in my central vacuum wall outlet. Made of metal which seems stronger than the old plastic one I had from my last hose. If you have legacy Sears Kenmore central vacuum outlets and are using a new standard hose, this is a must have!!!
